"Do. Or do not. There is no try."

(name that movie)

"the noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands."
Isaiah 32:8

Do you have a "to do" list for today?  If you don't have one on paper, do you have one in your head?  Or maybe your morning prayers consist of, "Please don't let me forget...."  Of course, there's a feeling of desperation that goes along with that method....  at least for me...

A "to do" list gives us a feeling of control.  I've got a friend who writes down her list, and then if she does things that weren't on the list, she writes them on there, just so she has the joy of crossing them off.  Lists also make us more efficient.  There are certain occupations that won't make a move without one.  Like pilots.  And surgeons.   So why do my kids keep fighting it?  But that's for another day....

I love this verse for its celebration of "to do" lists.  But this goes one step further.  God expects us to not only make noble plans, but then act on them.  And frankly, He expects us to apply this to more than just  accomplishing our daily tasks.  When He speaks to you, through His Word, through a sermon or through His Spirit; whether you feel compelled to quit smoking, go on an international mission trip, or broach the subject of salvation with a co-worker, He expects you to stand by those noble deeds.   Pray, plan, then do.

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
and He will establish your plans." ~
Proverbs 16:3
